There are weddings you photograph, and then there are weddings you carry with you. Denise and Parker's fall wedding at the Knoll Barn on Derby Pond is one I'll never forget.

Vermont in the fall is something else entirely, and Derby Pond in October is breathtaking. Deep reds and burgundies filled the landscape and wove through every detail of the day, from the rich florals to the warm, golden midday light that spilled across the water during their ceremony. They exchanged vows overlooking Derby Pond, surrounded by the kind of autumn color that makes you remember why you live in Vermont.

The Knoll Barn is a gem of the Northeast Kingdom — intimate and warm downstairs where dinner unfolded beautifully, and absolutely electric upstairs where the party took over. This was a full, joyful celebration, and the energy in that room was something I've rarely experienced. The dance floor never quit. The love never quit. You could feel it in every corner of that barn, in every single frame.

But what made this day truly unforgettable was something quieter. Parker lost his mom before their wedding day, and her presence was felt in the most tender, unexpected ways. A red dragonfly appeared at the bridal suite that morning; delicate, unhurried, impossible to ignore. And later, when I reviewed the photos of Parker and his dad, there they were: deep red sun flares, glowing through the frames like something that couldn't be explained.

I don't take lightly the privilege of being trusted to document days like this one. Days where grief and joy live side by side, where love shows up in ways you can't plan for or predict. Denise and Parker's wedding at the Knoll Barn reminded me that the best weddings aren't perfect — they're real. And this one was as real as it gets.
